Zydeco Dancing at December Nights in Balboa Park
Friday December 5, 5-10 p.m. / Saturday, December 6, noon-10 p.m. Dance on the Plaza de Panama Stage to live Cajun/zydeco music beneath a canopy of holiday lights provided by Sempra Energy. In the spirit of the holidays, participating Balboa Park museums open their doors free of charge from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. both evenings. The largest free community festival in San Diego, December Nights is expected to attract more than 300,000 visitors over two days. New this year: illuminated Moreton Bay Fig Tree, and Palisades Midway with ice skating and kid-friendly "Taste of December Nights." See calendar listing for shuttle and parking information.

| Here is a brief lesson in the basic zydeco dance steps. There are many other steps and stylings which can be added to these steps. Free lessons are available with paid admission to weekly dances in Southern California. Greg Benusa teaches beginning and intermediate zydeco lessons in San Diego from 7 to 8 p.m. before his dances at Tio Leo's (on Napa Street) on Tuesday nights, and Karen Redding teaches beginning and intermediate zydeco lessons in Long Beach from 7 to 8 p.m. before her dances at Golden Sails Hotel.
